Update for Day 72 to Day… 365

Hi everyone, Steven here. Longtime no read.

Today is October 1, 2024 which means today marks one calendar year following Jenny’s accident. The last time I wrote any update was on May 16, 2024 which was 138 days ago. Time has gone by so terribly fast and I believe it will continue to zoom on by for all of us.

I was never particularly attentive on specific dates or anniversaries my whole life, yet my mind now recognizes (at least some) significant dates in the calendar and today is one of the most important to me so of course I had to write to you all… or at least do something in honour of this very special day.

Instead of a normal written update, Jenny and I wanted to do something more special so we made a brief video for you all in celebrating her one year anniversary of surviving:

After doing more intensive research about Jenny’s accident in preparation of today, because we now know the oncoming vehicle approaching Jenny was speeding over 160km/h, when they collided with Jenny head-on as she was going the speed limit of 100km/h, this meant the effective collision speed clocked in at over 260km/h with each vehicle experiencing an instantaneous stop at -130km/h each.

When people mention that Jenny’s survival is miraculous, that is still an understatement. Jenny’s survival from an impact at this astounding speed is truly a statistical anomaly at less than a 0.0001% chance [Source: Wramborg, P. (2005) A New Approach to a Safe and Sustainable Road Structure and Street Design for Urban Areas] and everyday I am only becoming more thankful that she is still with us and there are no words to describe the experience of witnessing how far she’s progressed.

I so very much want to begin writing again. I’ve been with her everyday, I’ve been keeping track, I’ve been documenting all I can but I simply do not have the time or the means with how my current life is going but there is an opportunity for me to write again with your help, so please have a look at our video here:

Even though I haven’t been able to update her website everyday anymore, I created a small poster of Jenny’s recovery timeline for her birthday in June up until that date. It contains a few pictures of things I wanted to write about in further detail once I managed to reach that point on her site, but for now, please accept this small project of mine as a thank you and a look of what’s more to come as I can hopefully begin writing again soon.

As my final note, at the time of writing this, Jenny’s memory can only extend to a few days in the past with just a very small handful of memories powerful enough to recall over these past few months. When she looks over these posters I made for her, she cannot remember any of them except Valentine’s Day and her trip to The Leaf. I want to keep writing and recording these memories for her so that even if she can’t remember them, she will have proof she lived through them.
